Sentimental Things to Save

I know we talk constantly about downsizing and keeping only the necessities. But we do have a soft spot! We all have some family heirlooms that may or may not be monetarily valuable but still mean the world to each of us. Make sure to keep these sentimental items safe for your loved ones:

  1. PHOTOGRAPHS: Family photographs are essential for passing down our history! It is easier than ever to copy photos so that the entire family can share in the memories.

  2. FAMILY RECIPES: Whether your loved ones were gourmet chefs with several cookbooks, or hardly ever entered the kitchen, there are probably a few good recipes that are worth preserving for the next generation.

  3. HOMEMADE ITEMS: This could be many things: a blanket, scarf, wedding dress, a doily, embroidery, pillow, tapestry, pot holder. If it can be cleaned, it is worth saving!

  4. HAND CRAFTED ITEMS: Was your loved one creative? You may have a painting, wood carving, photograph, sculpture, piece of pottery, a piece of furniture. Really anything that was handmade is a treasure for loved ones.

  5. LETTERS TO LOVED ONES: You may have held on to a letter from several generations ago. You may want to write your own letters to your loved ones. Leaving your thoughts and stories will stand the test of time!
