It's an unfortunate truth that we are probably preserving trash in our home. You will need to factor in this cost if you are moving or closing down a loved one's estate. It could end up costing several hundred or even a few thousand dollars to get rid of your leftover belongings. Many states do not allow toxic items to be thrown out with the regular trash. Watch out for these common items in your home:
Roll off dumpsters: This can be the largest cost, averaging around $500 depending on the size and amount of time rented.
Tires: $7 to $20 per tire at your local landfill. Some recycling centers will accept tires for $2 to $5.
Electronics: Based on weight and/or type of electronic, they will vary between
$10 to $30.
Spray Paint & Paint: $1 to $5 per can at the landfill. Some recycle facilities will take hazardous materials for free once per year.
Mattresses: $10 to $50 at the local landfill. There are many recycling companies, but they usually charge as well.
Appliances: $20 to $100 at the local landfill or a junk hauler. Recycling centers may accept for free or a small charge.
Paper: Since we're in the document business, let's add some tips! You can throw away paperwork for free, and recycling may also be free or comes with a charge with your trash service. If you have any type of personal or sensitive information on your documents, you should shred them to avoid any identity theft. Your employer may have a shred bin, or the post office allows for free shredding. Office supply and shipping stores can charge an average of $1.50 per pound.
These things aren't worth saving! Figure out how to dispose of them safely so it's one less thing to think about later. Message us today to discuss your situation.
