Vehicles Need to be Organized Too!

I could do a montage of cars that have been towed off from our home over the past thirty years. Four come to mind, but I don't think that's the final tally. A combination of old cars, accidents, a flood. Well, anyway. The latest was a small accident, but it resulted in the car being totaled by the insurance adjuster. We very quickly had to get everything in order for the salvage yard to come pick up the vehicle. It is vital to keep these major assets protected with organized paperwork. Here's a list of things to keep handy for your own car:

  • Vehicle Title

    • You will have this if there is no loan.

    • Make sure the title is "clean" - the DMV has you registered as the current and only owner.

  • Loan Documents

    • If you are making payments, be sure to have all of the current documents and contact information for your creditor.

  • Insurance

    • Correct and current information on you, the vehicle and your insurance company.

  • Registration

    • From the DMV - shows that all fees have been paid for the upcoming year.

  • Major Maintenance Repairs

    • This point gets a little contentious - mostly between males and females (in my own experience). Females prefer to keep less info and males want to keep meticulous records. The happy medium is at least keep the major stuff for warranties and possible future issues.

Good news - our Master Keys kit has a section to store all of your vital vehicle documents! Getting the paperwork together was faster and easier than making sure the vehicle was cleaned out. Safe driving!
