We talk about getting our own lives organized. We also need to consider our elder loved ones. You may have noticed something is different? It may be just an off day. But if you keep noticing inconsistent behavior, it may indicate that a higher level of care and need are necessary. Here are three signs to look for the next time you're visiting your loved one:
Impatience
Does your loved one seem to be getting more frustrated than normal? Examples include talking to customer service or trying to find something in stores.
Losing Interest
Does your loved one have an issue but doesn’t care about solving it? This could include not paying a bill or not fixing something at home.
Isolation
Is your loved one no longer running regular errands or spending less time with friends? There may be a mental or physical issue that they haven't discussed with you. Medical help may be needed.
What's the next stage? Your loved one may not be aware that they need help. It might be time to offer your loved one more support with housekeeping, daily money managers, planned activities, medical diagnosis, etc. Help can come from loved ones or professional third parties. Whatever help you offer can help ease the next phase of your loved one's life.
